Comparison of Ocean Color Data Products from Meris , Modis , and Seawifs : Preliminary Results for the East China Seas
نویسندگان
چکیده
Concurrent Level-3 data products from MERIS, MODIS, and SeaWiFS between June 2003 and June 2006 for the East China Seas were compared against each other to evaluate the consistency between the sensors. The atmospheres in these regions is generally turbid, with typical aerosol optical thickness at 865 nm (tau_865) around 0.16, therefore presents a challenge to atmospheric correction. The statistical comparison focused on three geographical areas in the offshore waters that are influenced by the Kuroshio current with mean chlorophylla concentrations (chl) < 0.2 mg m (Area “a”), in the Zhejiang coastal waters where red tides often occur (Area “b”), and in the middle of the Yellow Sea (Area “c”), respectively. Except for the winter-spring blooms, the normalized water-leaving radiance (nLw_560), chl, and tau_865 data products were generally comparable among the sensors, particularly for Area “a”. RMS differences between MERIS and SeaWiFS, and between MERIS and MODIS increased from clear to turbid waters. Large discrepancies often occurred between tau_865 products.

متن کاملInter-comparison of Ocean Colour Data Products during Algal Blooms in the North Sea
Several satellite-borne ocean colour Earth observation (EO) sensors are presently collecting data on an operational basis, including the Envisat MERIS sensor. This study aims at detecting differences in ocean colour EO sensor performances for ocean monitoring and in particular the study of algal bloom situations. The motivation for the present study is to explore how data from different sensors...
متن کاملWater Quality Monitoring of Large European Lakes Using Meris Full Resolution Data
In order to complement present water quality monitoring of large lakes, we have attempted to make use of satellite imagery. In addition to ocean color sensors SeaWiFS and MODIS, lately MERIS images also became available. Here we analyze 18 almost cloud free full resolution atmospherically corrected MERIS images over the large European lakes Vättern, Vänern and Peipsi, where water type ranges fr...

The MERIS radiometric and geophysical products are assessed using in situ data collected at the Acqua Alta Oceanographic Tower in the northern Adriatic Sea from May 2002 to May 2003. The analysis is restricted to satellite and in situ data taken within ±1 hour difference to minimize the effects of the spatial and temporal non-homogeneity of atmosphere and sea around the measurement site. The co...
متن کاملIntercomparison of Imaging Spectrometers over the Salar De Uyuni (bolivia)
A-MODIS, AATSR, MERIS, POLDER-3 and SeaWiFS data are directly compared at top of the atmosphere level for nearly concomitant observation carried out under nearly identical or reciprocal geometries. Comparisons are carried out over the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. The results indicate that MERIS and A-MODIS are radiometrically in line. In comparison to these sensors, the SeaWiFS data exhibit a sys...
